About 70% of South Korea's land is covered by mountains.
Unlike towering peaks like the Himalayas or Mount Everest, most of Korea's mountains are relatively low, with elevations under 2,000 meters.
One of the things that surprises foreign visitors to Korea is that the capital city, Seoul, has a large river (the Han River) flowing through its center and is surrounded by mountains.
As for me, I also live in Seoul, and it's incredibly convenient to get some light exercise, as I can reach a nearby mountain trail within just 10 minutes by public transportation from my home.

Now, what is the highest mountain on the entire Korean Peninsula, including both South and North Korea?
It’s none other than Mount Baekdu (2,744m above sea level)!
Mount Baekdu is a volcanic mountain located on the border between North Korea and China. For many Koreans, especially those who love hiking, climbing Mount Baekdu—the highest peak on the Korean Peninsula—is a dream.
While it's impossible to climb Mount Baekdu through North Korea, it is accessible for hiking and tourism via China.
I haven’t had the chance to visit Mount Baekdu yet, but I hope to climb it someday! :)
